MyLiberty San Mateo Tea Party

Nearly 300 protesters pounded the sidewalk of El Camino Real in San Mateo, CA on Wednesday to demonstrate their disapproval of the federal stimulus package and the implications of bailouts for taxpayers.
Some participants grabbed the attention of drivers-by and cameramen with colonial costumes, teakettle props, signs reading "Change - it's what's in your wallet," and chants of "no more pork." Others standing on the sidewalk quietly planned for a 2010 Republican comeback, or discussed their differing views with each other under swaying signs and flags. Some spoke their minds freely, while others balked at talking to me, since this piece was for the Huffington Post. Several in the crowd expressed their anxiety at the way I might twist their words, and how Arianna Huffington was "not credible" and a "nutcase."
Those who did speak to me described feelings of anger toward a stimulus bill that they called unconstitutional and a tax system that they felt leaned toward socialism. To support the argument that the stimulus package is not constitutional, veteran Leonard Stone passed out a resolution written in the Texas legislature, stating that the federal government is in violation of the tenth amendment, in which "powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people." Stone said that 33 states are now adopting a similar resolution.
"Bailouts are unconstitutional," Stone said. "Let capitalism do what it does...when government pays for failure, you're only going to get more failure. You get what you pay for." Stone said that the vast majority of Americans are employed at small businesses, which are the cornerstone of American prosperity. He argued that the government should keep its hands off of business altogether: "The business of government is not business. It's governing. The rule of law. Treating everyone the same. Regulating for protection. Not to stop growth."
Barbara Barnes is a fourth-generation Californian who agrees with Stone. She came out to the Tea Party because she disapproves of being overtaxed. "This [protest] is not Democratic or Republican. This is for the people," Barnes said. She said that people are now taxed almost 50 percent, and that for those benefitting from others: "Once you run out of other people's money, I don't know what's going to happen."
Standing next to Barnes, 24-year-old Charles Hoelzel said that he did benefit from taxpayer money as a child, when his single mother was on welfare. But Hoelzel has done well for himself since then and plans to run for office in November. Originally from New Orleans, Hoelzel said that he took an unpaid day off to be at the Tea Party protest: "I'm 24 and I'm fed up with prosperity leaving us. I've seen poverty, and I'm not going back." Hoelzel's main purpose was to voice concern at the administration's recent actions and hope for a correction of the problem: "At the end of the day, Obama is still our president. No matter what, we need to back him and pray," a comment that many surrounding him did not agree with.

Today's D.C. Protest
Just for our own satisfaction...because you won't hear it in the Fringe Media...here's the estimate of the number of Tea Party Protesters who showed up in D.C. today...
Be sure to go to the second page of the story for the picture and the scientific "crowd estimate"...
We might lose the battle of Health Care...but, my angels, we shall win the WAR for the Republic!
Read our glorious history....Washington did not win a single battle until he crossed the Delaware and surprised the Redcoats...
And it was months into WWII before we won our first battle.
And in both we were utterly triumphant.
Stay strong...stay angry...

Sort of the News...
I got quoted in the Chronicle about the Bay Area Patriots "Groupa-Palooza" at which MyLiberty SanMateo had a table, and schmoozed with patriots from all over the Bay Area.
May I say....the reporter was...well I'll let you come to your own conclusion...
The hardest work he did all day seemed to be his untiring efforts to insert the "racist" meme into his interviews.
The T-shirt he references was "The Obama Joker" on the front, and "The Bush Joker" on the back. Equal opportunity insults!
It was LIPSTICK, Chron-Dude. Not Watermelon juice....which was a total leap into the crazy tree by a frustrated reporter who couldn't find any fire-breathing, knuckle-dragging, inbred mouth-breathers to parade before his Leftist/Progressive readership in San Francisco.
And he was woefully ignorant of the movement and local celebrities. He asked me what I thought of Savage's speech. The problem is, it wasn't Michael Savage...it was Brian Sussman. The reporter also failed to mention Sussman's meteorological credentials when he mentioned Sussman promoting his book, ClimateGate. He merely refers to him as a KSFO talk show host.
In fairness, he did mention, and even quote a black guy who rejected the whole "racist" meme. And for the in-the-Progressive-bag-Chronicle...that's downright "fair and balanced".

Tea Partiers, Take Care
Waring about wasting the Tea Party passion, from Big Government.
Something to keep in mind as we head into the election year...and the dangerous future. We need to keep the Conservative Tea Party Movement alive and well...and not allow it to dissipate through lack of leadership and cohesion.
wtp
Don’t get me wrong, I love the passion and was thrilled by the hundreds of Tea Parties with their millions of participants as it happened across this land in 2009. I was heartened that so many Americans were standing up to the anti-American left like that. But how do we channel that passion into something that can lead to positive change?
Without question powerful change needs a leader. Unfortunately, unless a leader steps forward that can gather all those many Tea Party strings into a single strong rope, it is likely that the whole thing will just pass away and be left a footnote in history. And what will this do to those yearning for change? What else could it do but cause them to become even more cynical going out than when they came in, leaving them thinking that nothing can be done and that we are doomed? This could lead to even worse societal strife down the road as frustrations build.
Something to keep in mind as we head into the election year...and the dangerous future. We need to keep the Conservative Tea Party Movement alive and well...and not allow it to dissipate through lack of leadership and cohesion.

The "Sick-In"
Here's Jack's blog post about the recent San Francisco "sick-in"
wtp
Liberals hold sit-ins. When protesting Obamacare, a 'sit-in' didn't seem appropriate: a 'sick-in' did. Carrying with them their crutches, bandages, and fake blood, a crowd gathered today by the Ferry Building in San Francisco to protest what Obamacare would do to our health.

Our Local Tea Party "Mobstress"
Confessions of a San Francisco Tea Party Mobstress by Sally Zelikovsky of Bay Area Patriots.
It's a great piece...and her passion and commitment should be an inspiration to us all...
To the best of my knowledge, this is unprecedented: average citizens taking on a radical President, who is hell bent on eradicating our way of life and replacing it with something out of Moscow from thirty years ago, and doing so in the country's most radical city! San Francisco's tea partiers are a small but significant cog in the tea party wheel that is seeking to prevent Obama from imposing a regime on this nation that is inimical to every principle on which this country was founded, every life sacrificed for those principles and every fiber on which our founding documents were crafted.

San Francisco Surprises Everyone!

See Jack's blog for the story on the Protest yesterday.
"Even in San Francisco, Pres. Obama cannot escape protesters. He held a fundraiser at the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco tonight (Thursday) and a crowd turned out across the street on Union Square to let him know what they thought..."
I've received kudos from all over the country, from people who are surprised (and delighted) that there are actually people in San Francisco that don't suffer from ØbamaMania.
Our politicians are totally ruining our reputation.

Anna Eshoo's Townhall
Please go to Jack's blog, The City Square, for photos of and commentary about Anna Eshoo's town hall meeting.
When I was present, there were no live questions from the audience. All questions were submitted in writing, screened, and read by Rep. Eshoo. Maybe it was just an off-day for her, but it seemed to me that she had a hard time stringing words into sentences, let alone combining sentences into coherent thoughts. Frequently, she would pick a question to read, then read it to the audience, then decide that she had answered it previously, then tell the audience that she was going to skip that question, and then start reading the next question. That she is one of this country's leaders is frightening.
Thanks, Jack, for the info and the great photos.

Bab's and the Giant Protest
We just got back from the San Jose protest at Babs Boxer's book signing. I only have one complaint. IT. WAS. TOO. HOT. I suppose it's because I live in Pacifica, but I'm just not good with 85 degree weather. It was a beautiful day, but the sun was unrelenting to my coastal sensibilities.
Otherwise, it was great fun. Even with a couple Liberals who would insist on engaging me. Let's see. I was called a liar, and a Rush robot. One guy said that I just listen to Rush and do whatever he says instead of thinking for myself. His women said that Rush Limbaugh trades on fear and hate. I suggested that if she actually listened to him she'd know that wasn't true. Naturally, she claimed she does.
Why do they do that when it's so clearly a lie?
Her man announced that the Constitution was written over 200 year ago, for agrarian times and didn't apply to our current modern culture. Seriously. HE. SAID. THAT.
I should have countered with, "Do you mean that individual liberty is an obsolete idea?", but he was beyond talking to at that point, and did I mention I was over-heated...?
Another Liberal guy sited Alexander Hamilton as proof that the "Founding Fathers" didn't consider government as the necessary-evil-enemy-of-the-people that they themselves made clear.
Sigh.
When I told him I'd rather have freedom than even "good" health care if it was run by the State....he just looked at me.
It's like "freedom" is a word in a foreign language that they don't understand.
Same guy insisted that Europe has great health care and that everybody there loves it. Faced with three different groups of people who said they had friends, especially in Britain, that hated it, he wasn't fazed at all. He's got the talking points down, and he's sticking to them. Facts be damned.
Here's more or less how his argument ran:
1) Liberal: "The health care system is horribly broken. We need to reform it."
2) Me:" I agreed that health care needs to be reformed, but not by turning it over to the State."
4) Liberal: "The STATE already runs over half of our health care, so what's the problem?"
5) Me: "I thought you said the system was horribly broken? If the STATE is running over half of it and it's horribly broken, why do you want to let them run MORE of it?"
6) Liberal: "Well, they probably run less than half, actually."
I don't think they think their arguments through very well.
But we far outnumbered them in any case, I heard one of the organizers estimate that a thousand people showed up! So while we didn't invade Barnes & Noble, or seek to confront Babs, it's not possible that she didn't know we were there, and that's all that matters.
We did stick around until she left...there was a town crier going up and down the sidewalk giving us updates. And a big crowd gathered at the driveway when she was driven out...
All was peaceful and friendly and fun. Lot's of horn honking and waves and thumbs-up of approval from cars passing on the big street we lined.
Another day, another protest.
God, I rather be home playing with my cats, blogging and staying cool under the lovely overcast skies of my coastal town...
But, hey, the Republic is at stake, and considering that...and what the Founders risked to create this amazing, God-blessed, divinely inspired miracle called "America", and what so many more have fought and died to preserve and protect, it's the least we can do, right?
Let's all get out there and give them hell! And TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK!

Dallas Tea Party Activists OutFlank MoveOn.org at Obamacare Protest.
Local MoveOn.org members had penciled in on today’s schedule a protest in front of Senator John Cornyn’s Spring Valley Road office, during which they had hoped to pressure the senator to support President Barack Obama’s public health care legislation. But when Paula Anderson, a MoveOn.org member and spokeswoman, showed up at 11:30 a.m., she found another contingent had beat her to the proverbial punch: A large number of Dallas Tea Party members were already set up, voicing their opposition to the proposal. Here's the story from the Dallas Observer
