From David Harmer's Campaign

Friend --

As the old saying in politics goes, "If they are attacking you, you must be doing something right!" That something right is standing up in strong opposition to the massive expansion of government spending, deficits and debt coming out of Washington.

But when a lifelong career politician is forced to make up stories about you -- then you know he's desperate.

"Dem In California Special Election Attacks Wrong Opponent"
The Hill, October 14, 2009

That's exactly what my opponent -- Lt. Governor John Garamendi -- was caught doing earlier this week. In a widely circulated mailing, he falsely attributed to me a quotation and history from someone else. To make matters worse, when he was called on it by the media, Garamendi refused to apologize and instead launched another attack.

Why is Garamendi taking this tack and resorting to out-and-out falsehoods?

The reason is simple. Recent polling revealed that we've pulled even with John Garamendi in the 10th Congressional District special election.

That's right! Even though Democrats outnumber Republicans in this district by 62%, this race is now neck and neck.

Friend, more than ever, we are in position to win this seat. Momentum is ours, but I need your help -- will you stand by me?

The national press corps is watching this race, and our victory will send a message that will completely reframe the debate in Washington.

With just over two weeks to go, every hour is critical. I need your help now!

Please stand with me by making the most generous contribution you possibly can. Send $500, $250, $100, even $50, but do it today.

Thanks for your support!
Here is David Harmers website. He has been endorsed by Tom McClintock, which may actually mean something. Check him out, and decide whether donating is something you'd like to do.

Harmer's "Pledge" is good as far as it goes, while his take on the issues seems a little vague and rather open to various interpretations. I'd prefer more concrete specifics. (I really don't care that he believes "passionately" in quality education...I want to know what he's going to do to support vouchers and home-schoolers, and stand up to the Teachers Union.)

But in the final analysis, unless there is secret third candidate professing hard core Conservative principles—if John Garamendi is his only opponent—it's not a difficult choice at all, is it?
