Mark Steyn on Obamacare

The Nationalization of Your Body, by Mark Steyn

Health care is a game-changer. The permanent game-changer. The pendulum will swing, and one day, despite their best efforts, the Republicans will return to power, and, in the right circumstances, the bailouts and cap-&-trade and Government Motors and much of the rest can be reversed. But the government annexation of health care will prove impossible to roll back. It alters the relationship between the citizen and the state and, once that transformation is effected, you can click your ruby slippers all you want but you’ll never get back to Kansas.

Hat Tip/Jan

Jan Found a Gem at American Thinker

Obama Fails by R. Dunn

The collapse of the stimulus can be taken as representative of Obama's policies, past, present, and future. The stimulus shares one major element with every other program this administration has come up with: they have all been tried before, and they have all failed.

I love American Thinker.

(Full Disclosure: They have published a couple things of mine, so I might be prejudiced.)

Hat Tip/George Martin

From One of Us

Written and mailed in by George Martin:

Is the Health Care Crisis a Smoke Screen? I am a firm believer that the politicians in Washington DC are keeping a deep dark secret from Americans. If they were just honest about the situation I believe there would be an increase in supporters for a new National Health Care Plan. One that is based on honesty and truth for the reasons we need a new Healthcare Plan.

How many years have we heard that Medicare is on the verge of bankruptcy? Year after year we hear politicians, professionals and media types winging their hands and declaring that Medicare is going bankrupt.

I can see why. Washington has expanded that program so much over the years that it is ready to implode under its own weight, Now, along comes the Baby-Boomers hitting their retirement years and Medicare will not be able to support this huge increase of recipients.

That is the information I feel the politicians are keeping from the American people. Why? That is the million-dollar question! The need is there for a program to replace Medicare, why not be honest about it?

Most people don’t accept as fact that there are 47 million uninsured in this country. Some articles in the MSM call it the 46 Phantom Uninsured. So, they resent a new health care program to include many who can afford, but won’t purchase insurance. Why do the politicians use this tired old canard to create a mega billion-dollar new health care program?

I firmly believe if the politicians were honest about the impending doom of Medicare under the weight of Baby-boomers and that Medicare has to be replaced, or reinforced I would support it and I am sure millions of Americans who now oppose the proposed Health Care Plan would join in and support it.

George H. Martin, Pacifica California

Thanks for the submission, George.

I hate to suggest this, but I think this suggestion is a good one:

I think it would behoove us to sign up for e-mail updates for Boxer and Feinstein, not only to keep abreast of what they are telling their supporters, but also to find out when they will be in town for us to go and either get into the townhall meeting or whatever forum into which they appear, or to demonstrate outside the venue to show that they're not universally loved and that the 'other' voters of their state WILL be heard and will try to vote them out, if possible.

Can Babs Be Beat?

Is it possible to unseat Barbara Boxer?

Rasmussen has some interesting numbers.

Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer leads former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina in an early look at California’s 2010 race for the U.S. Senate.

The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that Boxer attracts 45% of the statewide vote while Fiorina, her best-known possible Republican challenger, earns 41%. Seven percent (7%) say they’d vote for some other candidate, and seven percent (7%) are undecided.

In March, Boxer led Fiorina by nine, 47% to 38%.
Today the gap is only 4! That's the sort of trend we like!

Øbamacare is H.R. #676. The PDF I downloaded is only 30 pages, hardly the full text of the over 1,000 pages.

A Parable

And finally....from Jan:

One day a florist went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked for his bill, and the barber replied, "I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week." The florist was pleased and left the shop.

When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.

Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replied, "I cannot accept money from you, I'm doing community service this week.." The cop was happy and left the shop. The next morning when the barber went to open up, ther was a 'thank you' card and a dozen donuts waiting for him at his door.

Then a Congressman came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, "I can not accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week."

The Congressman was very happy and left the shop.. The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen Congressmen lined up waiting for a free haircut.

And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.
Doesn't get any truer or clearer than this.

We need to THROW THE BUMS OUT!

Dallas Tea Party Activists OutFlank MoveOn.org at Obamacare Protest.

Local MoveOn.org members had penciled in on today’s schedule a protest in front of Senator John Cornyn’s Spring Valley Road office, during which they had hoped to pressure the senator to support President Barack Obama’s public health care legislation. I thought this was funny but then I realized it may not be such a bad idea. Oh, if only we could obtain this political party divorce . . . good article by a good college student!!!

DIVORCE AGREEMENT

THIS IS SO INCREDIBLY WELL PUT AND I CAN HARDLY BELIEVE IT'S BY A YOUNG PERSON, A STUDENT!!! WHATEVER HE RUNS FOR, I'LL VOTE FOR HIM.

American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950's, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce. I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has run its course. Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way. Here is a model separation agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military.

You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

We'll keep the capitalism, greedy corporations, pharmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved homeless, homeboys and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood ..

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security. We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

We'll keep the SUVs, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find. You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right.

We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum Ba Ya or We Are the World. We'll practice trickle down economics and you can give trickle up poverty your best shot. Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you Answer which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely,

John J. Wall

THE MEETING..

Thursday's meeting went well. Though I probably talked too much.

There were about 12 attendees, and we all enjoyed meeting/seeing each other very much.

Mostly it was a meet and greet affair, appropriate for a first time gathering. But we did arrive a a few basic conclusions:

1) We will NEVER go to Zack's again. High prices. Lousy food. Seriously. My cat makes better gnoche—and she's not even Italian.

2) We recognize that the first priority is recruitment. No matter how many good ideas we have, we have to have enough people to implement them...because the Powers That Be only care about their own job security, and power is in numbers.

3) We all agree that the current entrenched parties no longer represent The People, and that the Congress is a swamp of vipers, that needs to be drained. We agree that the nation is being run by oligarchs, particularly under this "president", that wish to consolidate power in the Imperial State, and shred the Constitution, our Republic, and our Rights. And we agreed that even if it's not something we really want to do (we'd rather be fishing), it is our duty and responsibility to our forefathers, to ourselves & our honor, and to our children....to take our country back!

4) We will meet again in 2 weeks on Thursday, August 6 at 5:00 pm, at an as yet undisclosed location....see below.

5) Regular Meeting Place. We agreed that we would each seek out potential meeting places in our areas. We'd like it to be no further south than San Mateo, as several people will be coming from Pacifica and points north. We're particularly looking for one in which we could buy a reasonably priced meal, individually (like a Haufbrau or Pizza Parlor) and perhaps meet in one of their private rooms. If anyone has a good idea, email me at WeDaPeeps@gmail.com.

Alternatively, Elk and Moose or other Lodges as well as the American Legion were mentioned as possibilities If anyone is a member, and can inquire about arrangements, please let me know.

6) I am going to be sending a "YOU'RE FIRED" pink slips for political representatives tha everyone can print out and inundate their representatives with. We talked about sending them every day...just to get their attention. And to let them know WE ARE WATCHING!

I'll have those done and emailed to everyone before Monday.

7) And finally, I proposed that instead of us all getting scores of emails from each other, or from me, that we all check this blog daily for news and updates. Anything that anyone wants to share can be mailed to WeDaPeeps@gmail.com, and I'll post it.

Of course, date sensitive issues or emergency alerts will still be emailed directly.

I hope I've covered everything. If anyone who attended has anything to add, please click on "comments" below, and add to the conversation.

And speaking of "comments" on this Blog, let's use them as conversation threads. A way of keeping them all together, and OUT of our email boxes.

Thanks to all the people at the meeting last night. It was great. And I encourage everyone else to join us on August 8.

From a Former Pilot (hat tip to Kristin)

From a friend, to a friend, to a friend....to me, to you. Enjoy.

Senator Barbara Boxer
112 Hart Senate Office Bldg.
Washington, DC. 20510

Dear Mrs. Boxer,

I am writing in reference to your interview with US Army Corps of Engineers Brigadier General Michael Walsh during which you requested he address you as “Senator” instead of “ma’am”. You stated you had worked very hard for that title and would appreciate being called Senator. He very graciously acquiesced to your request.

I am curious about the nature of your very hard work to become a Senator. I’m sure there were long hours talking to groups of voters and telling them what your focus groups said might resonate and convince them to support you. And I’m sure there were long hours spent with special interest groups to gain financial support in exchange for favorable legislation if elected. And I’m sure there was a lot of time and money spent with consultants and speech writers to polish your image. Of course you are not alone in all this effort. That’s part and parcel of politics, right?

In contrast with what you did to gain your title of Senator I was thinking of what Michael Walsh went through to earn his flag rank of Brigadier General. Certainly there was some politics involved as would be the case in any human interaction. But, as a former naval officer, I can assure you performance and discipline are the top qualities necessary to achieve flag rank in the military. And when I think of the present state of affairs in our federal government, I see very little evidence of those characteristics. When I watched the exchange between yourself and the General, I wished with all my heart the tables could be turned and he question you instead of you questioning him. You and all your cohorts need to be grilled about the decisions you make that affect our lives. You see, Mrs. Boxer, there are a whole lot of us out here that respect the military very much, but have little regard, indeed an increasing contempt and disdain for the United States Congress. My apologies to the few statesmen that remain, but remember the old saying, “Its too bad 90% have to mess up the reputation of the other 10%”.

The narcissism, condescension and insecurity you exhibited in your conversation with the General was both revolting and revealing. Do you think some of the far left politics you advocate have contributed to your state, California, being broke? Is there a chance as a politician you have promised more than you could deliver just to get elected? You seem unable to grasp the concept that respect is earned, not bestowed. You can put any title in front of a name, but that will not assure respect. Actions like Capt Sullenberg’s double engine failure and subsequence water landing in the Hudson EARN respect.

There was a time when protocol dictated a letter to a United States Senator be signed “Respectfully submitted”. Unfortunately for our nation those days are gone, and whether they will return is solely up to the performance of our elected representatives. In the meantime remember some of us are not watching “American Idol”. Rather, our eyes and ears are pointed towards Washington, and our hope is that some day signing our letters “respectfully” will be justified once again.

Most Sincerely,
Pretty much says it all. I'm so proud this "woman" represents my State.

George added this comment:
Wouldn't it be nice to have a president who could speak so eloquently without a teleprompter?

MSM reporters must be on their way to Florida now to dig up some dirt on Sara before she gets out of hand. If that fails, she's probably not too young for some raunchy ridicule on David Letterman's show.
I hope he's wrong. But I wouldn't count on it.

In The Bowels of Øbamacare

Michelle Malkin has done our work for us. As annoying and time-consuming as it is, you will find yourself even more appalled and disgusted than you were before when you read the abomination that is Øbamacare.

You don’t need an accounting degree or clairvoyant powers. The administrative costs and spillover spending effects will be astronomical. Look at existing federal programs. In 1966, the Office of Management and Budget put the total taxpayer costs for Medicare at $64 million. In 2011, Medicare costs are expected to balloon to nearly $500 billion. Medicaid cost $770 million in 1966. By 2011, that program will cost taxpayers an estimated $264 billion. The Virginia-based Council for Affordable Health Insurance estimated that the administrative expenses of both programs last decade were 66% higher than those of private sector health insurance companies.

And we ain’t seen nothing yet. House Republicans on the Joint Economic Committee sifted through their opponents’ 1,018-page health care bill and released a dizzying flow chart detailing the Byzantine bureaucracy Obamacare would create. Washington would become the home of at least 31 new federal programs, agencies, and commissions to oversee the government-run health insurance regime.

You've seen the chart. I posted it here a few days ago. It looks like a satire...but it's real.

Check out the rest of Malkin's article, for the whole lowdown on this atrocious power grab.

wtp

We The People Are Coming!

If you have not seen this, it is inspiring. It is from a woman in Arizona. She writes an open letter to our nation's leadership. Glenn Beck read this letter on the air, and it has been creating a sensation all over the country. Read it, and you'll see why:
"I'm a home grown American citizen, 53, registered Democrat all my life. Before the last presidential election I registered as a Republican because I no longer felt the Democratic Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me.

Now I no longer feel the Republican Party represents my views or works to pursue issues important to me. The fact is I no longer feel any political party or representative in Washington represents my views or works to pursue the issues important to me. There must be someone. Please tell me who you are. Please stand up and tell me that you are there and that you're willing to fight for our Constitution as it was written. Please stand up now. You might ask yourself what my views and issues are that I would horribly feel so disenfranchised by both major political parties. What kind of nut job am I? Will you please tell me?

Well, these are briefly my views and issues for which I seek representation:

One, illegal immigration. I want you to stop coddling illegal immigrants and secure our borders. Close the underground tunnels. Stop the violence and the trafficking in drugs and people. No amnesty, not again. Been there, done that, no resolution. P.S., I'm not a racist. This isn't to be confused with legal immigration.

Two, the TARP bill, I want it repealed and I want no further funding supplied to it. We told you no, but you did it anyway. I want the remaining unfunded 95% repealed. Freeze, repeal.

Three: Czars, I want the circumvention of our checks and balances stopped immediately. Fire the czars. No more czars. Government officials answer to the process, not to the president. Stop trampling on our Constitution and honor it.

Four, cap and trade. The debate on global warming is not over. There is more to say.

Five, universal healthcare. I will not be rushed into another expensive decision. Don't you dare try to pass this in the middle of the night and then go on break. Slow down!

Six, growing government control. I want states rights and sovereignty fully restored. I want less government in my life, not more. Shrink it down. Mind your own business. You have enough to take care of with your real obligations. Why don't you start there.

Seven, ACORN. I do not want ACORN and its affiliates in charge of our 2010 census. I want them investigated. I also do not want mandatory escrow fees contributed to them every time on every real estate deal that closes. Stop the funding to ACORN and its affiliates pending impartial audits and investigations. I do not trust them with taking the census over with our taxpayer money. I don't trust them with our taxpayer money. Face up to the allegations against them and get it resolved before taxpayers get any more involved with them. If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, hello. Stop protecting your political buddies. You work for us, the people. Investigate.

Eight, redistribution of wealth. No, no, no. I work for my money. It is mine. I have always worked for people with more money than I have because they gave me jobs. That is the only redistribution of wealth that I will support. I never got a job from a poor person. Why do you want me to hate my employers? Why ‑‑ what do you have against shareholders making a profit?

Nine, charitable contributions. Although I never got a job from a poor person, I have helped many in need. Charity belongs in our local communities, where we know our needs best and can use our local talent and our local resources. Butt out, please. We want to do it ourselves.

Ten, corporate bailouts. Knock it off. Sink or swim like the rest of us. If there are hard times ahead, we'll be better off just getting into it and letting the strong survive. Quick and painful. Have you ever ripped off a Band‑Aid? We will pull together. Great things happen in America under great hardship. Give us the chance to innovate. We cannot disappoint you more than you have disappointed us.

Eleven, transparency and accountability. How about it? No, really, how about it? Let's have it. Let's say we give the buzzwords a rest and have some straight honest talk. Please try ‑‑ please stop manipulating and trying to appease me with clever wording. I am not the idiot you obviously take me for. Stop sneaking around and meeting in back rooms making deals with your friends. It will only be a prelude to your criminal investigation. Stop hiding things from me.

Twelve, unprecedented quick spending. Stop it now.

Take a breath. Listen to the people. Let's just slow down and get some input from some non-politicians on the subject. Stop making everything an emergency. Stop speed reading our bills into law.

I am not an activist. I am not a community organizer. Nor am I a terrorist, a militant or a violent person. I am a parent and a grandparent. I work. I'm busy. I'm busy. I am busy, and I am tired. I thought we elected competent people to take care of the business of government so that we could work, raise our families, pay our bills, have a little recreation, complain about taxes, endure our hardships, pursue our personal goals, cut our lawn, wash our cars on the weekends and be responsible contributing members of society and teach our children to be the same all while living in the home of the free and land of the brave.

I entrusted you with upholding the Constitution. I believed in the checks and balances to keep from getting far off course.

What happened?

You are very far off course. Do you really think I find humor in the hiring of a speed reader to unintelligently ramble all through a bill that you signed into law without knowing what it contained? I do not. It is a mockery of the responsibility I have entrusted to you. It is a slap in the face. I am not laughing at your arrogance.

Why is it that I feel as if you would not trust me to make a single decision about my own life and how I would live it but you should expect that I should trust you with the debt that you have laid on all of us and our children. We did not want the TARP bill. We said no. We would repeal it if we could. I am sure that we still cannot. There is such urgency and recklessness in all of the recent spending.

From my perspective, it seems that all of you have gone insane. I also know that I am far from alone in these feelings. Do you honestly feel that your current pursuits have merit to patriotic Americans? We want it to stop. We want to put the brakes on everything that is being rushed by us and forced upon us.

We want our voice back.

You have forced us to put our lives on hold to straighten out the mess that you are making. We will have to give up our vacations, our time spent with our children, any relaxation time we may have had and money we cannot afford to spend on you to bring our concerns to Washington.

Our president often knows all the right buzzwords. His favorite is 'unsustainable'. Well, no kidding! How many tens of thousands of dollars did the focus group cost to come up with that word? We don't want your overpriced words.

Stop treating us like we're morons.

We want all of you to stop focusing on your reelection and do the job we want done, not the job you want done or the job your party wants done. You work for us and at this rate I guarantee you—not for long—because we are coming.

We will be heard and we will be represented. You think we're so busy with our lives that we will never come for you? We are the formerly silent majority, all of us who quietly work, pay taxes, obey the law, vote, save money, keep our noses to the grindstone and we are now looking up at you.

You have awakened us, the patriotic spirit so strong and so powerful that it had been sleeping too long. You have pushed us too far. Our numbers are great. They may surprise you. For every one of us who will be there, there will be hundreds more that could not come. Unlike you, we have their trust.

We will represent them honestly, rest assured. They will be at the polls on voting day to usher you out of office. We have cancelled vacations. We will use our last few dollars saved. We will find the representation among us and a grassroots campaign will flourish.

We didn't ask for this fight. But the gloves are coming off. We do not come in violence, but we are angry. You will represent us or you will be replaced with someone who will. There are candidates among us when hewill rise like a Phoenix from the ashes that you have made of our constitution.

Democrat, Republican, independent, libertarian. Understand this. We don't care. Political parties are meaningless to us. Patriotic Americans are willing to do right by us and our Constitution and that is all that matters to us now.

We are going to fire all of you who abuse power and seek more. It is not your power. It is ours and we want it back.

We entrusted you with it and you abused it. You are dishonorable. You are dishonest. As Americans we are ashamed of you. You have brought shame to us. If you are not representing the wants and needs of your constituency loudly and consistently, in spite of the objections of your party, you will be fired.

Did you hear? We no longer care about your political parties. You need to be loyal to us, not to them. Because we will get you fired and they will not save you.

If you do or can represent me, my issues, my views, please stand up. Make your identity known. You need to make some noise about it. Speak up. I need to know who you are.

If you do not speak up, you will be herded out with the rest of the sheep and we will replace the whole damn congress if need be one by one.

We are coming. Are we coming for you? Who do you represent? What do you represent? Listen. Because we are coming.

We the people are coming."

More on Øbamacare

The new bill will authorize Government Agents to come to your home for forced vaccinations.
There is a knock at the front door. Peeking through the window, a mother sees a man and a woman, both in uniform. They are agents of health-care reform.

And the only "vice" that will prompt higher premiums will be, you guessed it: Smoking.

Under the terms of the health-care reform bill approved by the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, the legal use of tobacco products is the only vice for which insurance companies will be able to charge their customers higher premiums.
Drug addiction? No problem. Prostitution? No problem. Terrorist? No problem. Smoking? Oh yes, that's evil.

And the Vampires and Zombies are busy rushing to include another tax in the bill:

A coalition of businesses, non-profits, and government agencies is urging the House of Representatives to include an alcohol tax hike in its health care bill.

Partnership for Prevention says the money generated by a higher federal excise tax on alcoholic beverages should go into a special fund that would pay for prevention and wellness programs.

It's not slowing down or ending anytime soon. They will keep going until we'll look at the old Soviet Union and wish we had that much freedom.

We need to stop this NOW. Dismantling it will be a nightmare, if it's possible at all. Our only hope is to defeat this power grab by the Imperial State before they have a chance to take control of every aspect of our lives.

My Letter to the Editor

Feel free to copy and paste.

wtp
Dear Editor:

Just in case anybody is under the misapprehension that government healthcare will be good for him or for the country, allow me to point out just three facts that are generally accepted by many Democrats and the Congressional Budget Office:

1) Health care costs will skyrocket. Make no mistake, a government-run system will cost more than $1 trillion and Washington will have to keep raising taxes, rationing care, and limiting your choices in doctors and treatments to keep up.

2) Millions of jobs will be lost. A massive small business tax and crippling penalties will force small businesses to shed jobs or close their doors.

3) Millions of Americans will lose their current coverage. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates up to 20 million Americans would remain uninsured, even after spending more than $1 trillion.

Contact your representative, and tell him THIS is not the answer to our healthcare problems. And do it NOW. There’s not much time.

Of course...

If you want healthcare run like the Veteran’s Administration or the DMV;
If you want long delays, rationed care, limited options, fewer new drugs and innovative procedures;
If you want millions of small businesses hurt or ruined, and thus even more massive unemployment;
If you want government forced destruction of your current health insurance...

...don’t do anything at all.

Signed, etc. etc.

Letter from John Boehner on ØbamaCare

Here is an email I received from John Boehner, House Republican Leader:

Dear Fellow American,

Speaker Pelosi and President Obama are pushing legislation that will force millions of families out of their health care plans and into a costly, lower-quality, government-run system - and they want a vote on it in a matter of weeks.

We need to stop them right here, right now. Here's how you can help: Please write at least one "letter to the editor" to your local newspaper or contact your Congressman and explain - in your own words - why you oppose government-run health care.

Here are three simple facts to keep in mind about the Democrats' government takeover:

1) Health care costs will skyrocket. Make no mistake, a government-run system will cost more than $1 trillion and Washington will have to keep raising taxes, rationing care, and limiting your choices in doctors and treatments to keep up.

2) Millions of jobs will be lost. A massive small business tax and crippling penalties will force small businesses to shed jobs or close their doors.

3) Millions of Americans will lose their current coverage. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates up to 20 million Americans would remain uninsured, even after spending more than $1 trillion.

Republicans have a real health care solution that will lower health care costs, expand access to high-quality care, and foster new innovations that will save lives - without raising taxes or creating a government "option."

Our plan will make it easier for small businesses to provide affordable coverage, and end the junk lawsuits and wasteful spending that drive up costs. Expect an email early next week from Congressman Price that explains our plan in more detail.

We can bring down the cost of health care - but first we need to stop Speaker Pelosi and President Obama's government takeover. So please write an op-ed to your local newspaper and call your Congressman today. I hope I can count on your help

Signed,
John Boehner
House Republican Leader

I'd just copy and paste the three main points, and send them to the newspaper with a short intro. Same for your rep.

Action Alert - ØBAMACARE

You can sign the Grassfire petition against ØbamaCare here. Doesn't take long. Doesn't cost anything.

Take a minute.

THE PLAN

"We The People", is a non-partisan group of patriots who are extremely concerned by what is happening to our country.

We certainly blame Øbama and the Democrats. But we acknowledge that without the spineless, and often corrupt cooperation of the Career Republican Politicians, a lot of what has already gone wrong would not have happened.

Øbama may be the worst President in history, but he is standing on the shoulders of the avarice, ambition, greed, selfishness and corruption of many generations of grasping, out-of-touch, power-hungry, dirty-dealing, elitest, self-serving CAREER POLITICIANS of both parties. And what they have created, or allowed to be created under their noses has made possible Øbama's rushing freight train to perdition.

And let's not even TALK about Republican spending!

I have thought about this a great deal, and I believe that there are three things we need to concentrate on:

1) Stop Socialized Medicine

2) Stop Cap & Trade

3) Throw The Bums Out!

I believe that every other issue, crime and outrage (of which there are so many every day, most of us feel as though we were drowning in piles of manure) will be manageable if we can accomplish #1 & #2.

Stopping these from going through will prevent the installation of infrastructure that will be nearly impossible to remove. And forbiding them to Øbama, will damage him politically—something we very much need to do. Even the Cult Media cannot spin the total loss of his two major Imperial State power grabs.

His regulations and taxes and fiats and budgets and horrid foreign policy can all be undone by a better and subsequent administration. But Cap & Trade devastates Business and Socialized Medicine devestates Private care which makes it difficult to restore them. In addition, they both install vast bureaucracies that will be much more difficult to dismantle.

We must concentrate on them. And together we can do it. Many in the Senate are already uncomfortable with Cap & Trade. And we have both houses as yet to work on regarding Health Care. But we have to get started NOW!

As for #3, it is very simple, though not easy. By 2010...a little over a year (and if not, then in 2012), we must try to get as many incumbents voted out of Congress as possible.

Here's the good part:

It does not matter whether they are Democrat or Republican. It does not matter whether they are good or bad. It does not matter whether they are honest or crooked. THAT IS NOT THE POINT.

We do not have to find good replacements. Or worry about issues. No. All we have to do is vote out all incumbents.

Why is this a good thing? What if we get someone worse in than we voted out, if we just vote against the incumbent?

It's called LEVERAGE. When you've got it, you can even make jerks do what's right! And it's called FEAR!

OUR GOVERNMENT IS SUPPOSED TO FEAR US. THIS IS HOW WE MAKE THAT HAPPEN!

1) If we can get say, 25%, of the incumbents tossed out, Congress will FREAK. It will look like an ant hill somebody flooded.

Their cushy jobs, their insulated existences will be blown wide open. They'll know they have targets on their backs, and that nobody is safe. That's very motivating.

This will be true of election survivors, as well as those who didn't face election that year, and every one of the "replacements" who benfited from the encumbents' losses.

A SCARED Congress is a WELL-BEHAVED Congress.

It's like hitting the mule over the head with the 2 x 4. We need to get their attention.

And writing, calling, petitioning, emailing...isn't working anymore. We can keep doing that, of course, but while we do, we need to grow a national movement to THROW THE BUMS OUT!

And in the mean time, we can ignore the flood of other issues, meant to dissipate our power, confuse our attention, dilute our effectiveness, overwhelm us, frustrate us, tire us and depress us—and in the end make us feel helpless and JUST GIVE UP.

We are Americans. We don't give up. We're tough, smart—and we got game. Let's show them they ain't seen nothin' yet!

I think we need to focus like lasers on CAP & TRADE, HEALTHCARE, and THROW THE BUMS OUT!

Of course, after we make our point, we can find and vote for as many great representatives as we can find in the next election...and toss the rest of the JERKS out on their asses.

I know this is terribly ambitious. And very unorthodox. Even radical.

Isn't it TIME for that? What we've been doing so far certainly IS NOT working.

If you're interested, reply to this address, and we'll meet soon to get started.

If you're not...I sure hope you've got a better idea. And if you do...please SHARE!

Thanks for your patience...reading this long email.

God Bless America

Chart of ØbamaCare

UPDATE: My friend Robert advises that I make clear that this graphic is not a 'cartoon' making fun of Øbamacare. It is not! This is a legitimate representation of what the bill in Congress actually entails. Though, considering how absurd it is, one could hardly be blamed for thinking otherwise. wtp

This is what the House Health Care Bill would look like if implemented.
Seriously, what is the MATTER with these people?

Fire Them All!

This is the "Reboot Congress" initiative from the New Hampshire 912 Project. I think it's a good one. The danger of getting a worse scoundrel that we got rid of is nothing compared to the lesson we'll teach the Imperial State...that it is We The People who are in charge!

I endorse it!

Hey Congress - You're Fired! You Can Take Action NOW!
As voters, we face a prodigious challenge in the coming elections. The challenge itself has been with us for decades, and for decades we have failed to step up to it. Yes, the blame for the failed policies of the past lies squarely on the shoulders of the American voter – not George Bush. Likewise, the failed policies of the future (now being formulated in Washington by the Obama coalition as a doubling down on the failed policies of the past) are directly the responsibility of - yes - the American voter.

How, with the best of intentions, have we gone wrong? Certainly we can point to having been hornswaggled by politicians and special interests, but we are a self-reliant people and most of us are not inclined to blame others for our own mistakes. We must examine our failed voting policies of the past and correct them. And we must do it before the next general election. Most of us are truly frightened by what is happening in Washington D.C. There is no time to waste.

The Lesser of Two Evils voting policy: This is the excuse we use when voting for borderline (or outright) criminals for public office. This rationale generally favors the incumbent as “the devil we know” vs. “the devil we don’t know”. This voter policy is directly responsible for negative campaign advertising. Voters almost universally don’t approve of negative campaign advertising BUT IT STILL WORKS. It works because it succeeds in planting the notion of greater evil about one or another candidate and political operatives know we will select the lesser of two evils. So long as this voter policy is in place the political operatives will be able to outmaneuver us. The major failure of this policy is that it promotes incumbency (the devil we know). Incumbency fosters the proliferation of unholy networks of public servants, lobbyists and political operatives (the parties) within which favors are done by the public servants and favors are paid for by the special interests. These are subtle exchanges, usually unlikely to be prosecutable in a court of law. If no politician could serve even a second term, these networks would deteriorate, there not being sufficient time to form them into stable, robust cabals.

The Straight Ticket voting policy: This policy simply applies the “Lesser of Two Evils” policy to slates of party candidates. Voters who tend to favor the Democrat platform vote for Democrats and vice versa. Because the voter now only has to make one decision, rather than many, it is a much more efficient path to political Armageddon. Similar to negative campaign advertising, this policy leads to a continual demonization war each party against the other. We now have rancorous political rhetoric bombarding us every day even when there are no elections in process. The consequence of this voting policy is incumbency squared. The parties are the promoters and the facilitators of the unholy networks within which wealth is transferred from special interests to politicians and, through legislation passed by the politicians, from the American voters to the special interests (guess who makes a profit on this). Parties almost always renominate an incumbent, so this voting policy practically guarantees high levels of long-term incumbency.

The question is, “Can we formulate a voting policy to break this cycle of voter failure?”. The answer is certainly “Yes” (else we are certainly doomed). Term limits you say? That is not a voting policy. That is an appeal to the legislature to pass a law to save us from ourselves. How pathetic is that? Not to mention the impracticality of it. Do you expect the U.S. Congress to ever pass a law that would derail it's gravy train? The unholy networks have been enormously profitable for most members of congress; and, although many of them will say they support term limits, the legislation itself will never, ever happen.

The Reboot Congress Voting policy: Just a few weeks before the election of 2008, Congressional approval hit an all time low of around 12%. One would therefore expect the reelection rate for sitting congressmen in 2008 to have been quite low, but in fact it turned out to be 94%! The last time the congressional reelection rate was below 94% was 1994. The lowest reelection rate in the last 50 years was in 1970 – 85%. Maybe we just love to hate these folks. In any case we have consistently empowered them to take advantage of us.

“And of what kind are the men that will strive for this profitable pre-eminence, through all the bustle of cabal, the heat of contention, the infinite mutual abuse of parties, tearing to pieces the best of characters? It will not be the wise and moderate, the lovers of peace and good order, the men fittest for the trust. It will be the bold and the violent, the men of strong passions and indefatigable activity in their selfish pursuits. These will thrust themselves into your government, and be your rulers. And these, too, will be mistaken in the expected happiness of their situation, for their vanquished competitors, of the same spirit, and from the same motives, will perpetually be endeavoring to distress their administration, thwart their measures, and render them odious to the people.” Benjamin Franklin

We MUST say to these people, loudly and clearly, “You're fired!”. The successful voting policy is easy to implement. It requires no research, no soul searching. All the information needed to do it is printed right on the ballot. Simply do not check the box for an incumbent. If by this policy the American voter can limit Congress to a reelection rate of 75% in 2010, that will be enough to shatter the confidence of Washington D.C. And it will reverberate throughout the country at every level of government. If we can achieve a reelection rate less than 50%, that will be total victory. Yes, if we follow this policy, we're going to elect some scoundrel challengers who may be worse than the deposed incumbents, but they will know they are likely to be one-termers if they don't win our approval. Ultimately of course, we will have to adopt a different policy we'll call “the greater of two goods” - the sooner the better. But for now, as voters, we need to take drastic action.

YOU CAN TAKE ACTION NOW by clicking here and notifying your congressman of his/her term limit.
