Guest Author - Robert L.

Background for this article is:

1) The book Architects of Ruin which documents the current economic disaster is the result of left-wing, anti-capitalism politics, rather than a conspiracy between big business and Republicans; (not that I am always favorably disposed towards Republicans); and

2) An professional colleague that I know who has been out of work for a while is taking a temporary job in retail sales.

The message is: this economy is failing us. And it is failing us precisely because left-wing politics have perverted the process in our country, substituting guilt mongering and race hustling. Their effect has been to DESTROY large amounts of wealth and promote economic devastation. Large numbers of people, including my colleague, are out of work as a direct result of the machinations of the collectivist, anti-freedom left.

In the last 15 years the S & P 500 has barely doubled. That works out to a rate of return of less than 5% per year. That's pretty bad. Recall two economic crashes have ravaged the economy since then, the dot-com fiasco of 2000 thru 2003 - the so-call Bush recession which he ended with tax cuts and growth incentives - and the current disaster, caused by ACORN, Barney Frank and other lefties who forced banks to make loans they never should have made, destroying trillions of dollars of wealth.

ACORN should be run out of our community and our politics not just because individual ACORN offices were caught facilitating tax evasion and trafficking in underage girls for immoral purposes (and then lied repeatedly about it), but rather for forcing banks and other financial institutions to lend money to poor people who lacked the resources to repay the loans. This phony "investment in the community" served to boost housing prices to unsustainable levels. And starting some 18 months ago, banks found too many of their "assets" (a loan is an asset to a bank) weren't worth a bucket of warm spit.

We need to condemn Pelosi, Reid, and, yes, Obama not because they are left-wing extremists (they are), but because they are WRONG FOR THIS COUNTRY. To me the debate has become right vs wrong. Not Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Beck vs Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews. The coercive collectivism of the Pelosi / Waxman / Boxer crowd is driving this country to economic ruin. The SJ Mercury News recently hounded the US Chamber of Commerce for refusing to buy into this Global Warming farce, and actively opposing Cap-n-Trade. What is wrong with them? Are they not aware of the record unemployment around here? Do they really think Cap-n-Trade will help?
